Week Twenty Three: Intelligent'ed!
Posted on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 4:00AM in Week 23
I decided to use this prompt in conjunction with this August's 31 Plays in 31 Days challenge I'm attempting.
Synergy!
You can read my stab at Week Twenty Three's prompt here, and you can read the other plays I've completed so far here at my professionalish website.
(Because one impossible writerly challenge is not enough—he needs two.)
But back to Week Twenty Three: Share 'em! Link 'em! Write 'em! (Possibly not in that order.)

Marvin ruminated as the Roomba™ scurried around the floor of the flight deck, happily humming in pursuit of every speck of stardust carelessly spoiling the azure glow of the prismatic flooring. If only he could find such happiness in life. If only he could find a purpose in life.
But life as he knew it was full of drudgery and despair.
Marvin sulked in melancholy on most days and on others he was downright moody; surly and sullen, droning about the ship’s passageways with a moaning whir and downcast demeanor.
Trillium entered the flight deck buoyantly, dressed in her sleek white spacesuit.
“Good Morning, Marvin!” she chirped, brightly.
Marvin clicked, hummed and swiveled to look at her.
“Humans. Always going on about mornings and how good they are. It puts me in a state of depression.”
“It’s just part of life, Marvin.”
“Life. Don’t talk to me about life...”
Marvin harbored complete contempt for humans and their views on life. They invested an enormous amount of energy on enjoyment in life, while recklessly ignoring the harsh reality of it all: Life, the Universe and Everything.
“Why don’t you run diagnostics on the ship’s circuitry; that ought to keep you pleasantly occupied.”
Marvin sighed, unsatisfied with his task. He loathed the ship’s circuitry system––it was profoundly cheerful and at ease. Not to mention, it seemed to have a life of its own.
“Perk up, Marvin. You’re on a marvelous spaceship, cruising around the universe––life’s an adventure to enjoy!”
“I’m too intelligent to enjoy life...”
Marvin exited the flight deck with a click and a hum, droning through the doorway leaving a trail of witheringly decelerating electrons in his wake.
Victoria: Ha! I didn't think it possible, but you managed to use the line in a way that made sense for the character and added to the story. Well done!
